I tend to rev the engine so the plane moves forward just a bit to ensure the tail wheel is straight before locking. Do an external look when you first spawn and check your tail wheel. Web10 Jun 2001 · Tailwheel locks are normally found on the larger taildraggers and are used to help maintain directional control during takeoff and landing. They are unlocked for ground manuevering. Smaller aircraft such as Super Cubs, Luscombes, etc. usually don't have them. (At least I've never seen one on the smaller single-engine airplanes.)
