If you put a pedal in front, you could get it louder I suppose, but again, it likely wouldn't be very loud. Vis-a-vis cabs, yes both amps, if you're using two, need to be plugged into a cab and seeing a proper load. It feels like it should have twenty tubes in it, but my only complaint (besides weight) is I think they were optimistic when they said 700wrms. I run a 2x10 and 1x15 (both 4ohm so I get the full watts) and yeah it's loud, but it doesn't seem like it is loud in the right spots.
