Over the years I've replaced them and all my humbucker pickups with WCR Fillmore sets, as I felt the '57 Classics were kind of thin sounding. The Fillmores have a deep, full-throated sound with plenty of fat mids. WebThe 498's are more modern sounding and agressive, maybe due to the alnico 5 magnets. The '57 classic was very smooth and flat sounding with alnico 2 magnets. I prefer agression and to be able to roll that agression off with the tone control, so I preferred the 498.
